Canvas is an experiment aiming at expressing feelings in the form of images, a path between photography and plastic arts.

"Canvas" refers to the white canvas on which one comes to fix a print or paint.

It symbolizes the blank page inciting to the personal expression, written or pictorial.

routine

"It's like a song you know by heart or coffee that always tastes the same."

Here, the medium of vinyl evokes redundancy. The vinyl has a limited amount of space. The above music is therefore frequently replayed, and sometimes even remain in the head and end up being known on the fingertips. This may echo the definition of routine.

Coffee is a recurrent example in the lexicon of routine. It reminds us of the new day that is beginning, the same drink that we drink every day, sometimes even at the same time. Coffee also illustrates the difficulty of getting out of this routine, as difficult as getting a coffee stain out.

stress

"The birds can't find the sky anymore and I'm suffocating."

The feeling of stress is a biological and psychic reaction. Several factors can be the cause of it and then generate anxiety.

The buildings in this image are a materialization of these factors and come to bring the idea of something that keeps growing. Here, they come to cover the sky, which is a symbol of freedom. Their size also expresses the mental load weighing on our protagonist.

The eyes help to personify the buildings and to bring the feeling of judgment.

The strings drawn are a metaphor for the puppet, and thus manipulate the man in this image. The stress no longer allows the character to be master of his decisions.

love

"And when time will have reason of our bodies, our hair and our eyes, I will be always blue of you"

The choice of black and white printing allows the flatness of the blue acrylic paint to stand out. The lack of color also helps intensify the feeling of love. Nothing else matters to these two lovers being in love with each other. The choice of the color blue refers to the expression "to be blue of someone".

This spot, which suggests and does not indicate

a body, but rather the multitude of small things that give rise to love. That is to say that love is not only physical, but also psychic.

The text, allows to create a feeling of envelope, of cocoon. That makes it possible to isolate and to unify the two characters.

INDECISION

"Which truth to believe?"

At first glance, all houses seem to be identical... This is an illusion. If you pay close attention, each of them is composed of two layers of opposite colors. They give each house a singular colorimetry by superimposing themselves. If you had to decide which house looks more like the original, it would be impossible to make a choice, but you have to.

These three houses represent three different versions of the same story from different perspectives.

Are you undecided now? Which story do you believe?

CONSTRAINTS

"Love the pink and shut up."

"Constraint" looks at the standard of female beauty. These encourage conformity in the way of being and behaving in society. Every action, every piece of clothing, every word is scrutinized and constrains freedom. Pink is symbolic, it represents femininity, or the image that sticks to it. The choice and the style of the graffiti typography used for "beauty standards" allow to put in contradiction two elements. On the one hand, the beauty standards, this imposed and universal norm, and on the other hand, graffiti is synonymous with discontent, vandalism, rebellion against the system. A personal and direct means of expression aimed at impacting the degradation it generates.

The addition of these elements allows to express this:

the standards of beauty are so normalized and unattainable that it brings to the vandalism of the personality of each one. They force one to fit into a box in order to be properly considered.

rage

"The words started flying like bullets,

I couldn't even hear what I was saying

I could only see red

more than red".

Taken from the expression "seeing red", this graphic illusion attempts to convey the following message: rage is such a powerful feeling that it can sometimes obscure the sensitivity of the individual in front of it and prevent any possible compassion.

When the red filter is placed in front of the silkscreen, the character appears to remind us.

VULNERABILITY

"And if I fall, I fly into the ground."

This image is taken from the phrase "feeling laid bare." It illustrates the discomfort and emotional fragility about a situation or even a person. The lace on which our protagonist rests is sewn to the paper. It symbolizes the fragility of the world on which she rests. The cracks covering her body are added to the golden paint. They refer to an ancient Chinese porcelain repair technique called "Kintsugi". Its philosophy is to leave the marks of damage, but also of repair visible, these are embellished with gold. They signify not the end, but the beginning of a new cycle.

CULPABILITY

"As I want to disappear

I am sorry

Sorry."

The silhouette cut out in the image is a representation of guilt. The latter being so strong that our character would like to disappear in the eyes of all in order to no longer cause harm and to flee the accusing looks. So ashamed of his actions, he cannot find the right words to express his regret. He repeats himself in a loop looking for and stammering the adequate excuse. This search for an excuse can be determined by the spectator by allowing him to pull or push the slide with different texts.

loneliness

"- I am my father's son, I go everywhere he goes, my grandmother hated it, but I always stole my father's car to go around without telling him.

- Yes, I know grandpa, you already said that....

- ...."

Sometimes we can be lonely, even with people around. Loneliness means misunderstanding, it is unique to each person. This is often the case for the elderly. They see the world changing around them and sometimes feel helpless in the face of incomprehension.

The use of black dry pastel illustrates the volatile side and the transparency of the silhouette seeming indifferent to the eyes of the protagonist. These are drawn on tracing paper over the print. This makes the image didactic, and shows the viewer two worlds in which the character lives. A world where he is misunderstood and one where he is alone.

NOSTALGY

"Hello Mom, I hope you are well and that the weather is nice at home. Here, everything is fine, as usual, routine, work.

I'm sorry I haven't been here for a while, it's been complicated right now.

I miss you guys. "

Nostalgia is defined by a feeling of melancholy, a bygone era, a homesickness. It is also a strong memory, a mental image, of a place or a moment, often repeated and sometimes even fantasized.

The pink cherry trees, even more pink, the architecture that we know so well, which almost melts into the sky, etc.

The use of a composite image in relief for the subject of nostalgia allows to express the detailed and vivid side of this intense souvenir. The whole on the postcard format, amplifies the symbolism of place and time passing, a piece of the past preserved by nostalgia.
